Frequently Asked Questions for Camps & Clinics

These are our most FAQ's that we have received for our Summer Camps and Clinics.

What time should I arrive?

For Summer Camps, the registration takes place on the first day.  You should arrive one hour and fifteen minutes early on the first day of camp.  For the remainder of the week, we recommend arriving 30-40 minutes prior to the on-ice activities.

For example, most of our camps have a start time of 9:00 am on the ice.  Students should arrive by 7:45 am on day one and 8:20 - 8:30 am for the remainder of the week.

Start times for Clinics or other training sessions will vary, please confirm arrival time via emails and online on our Eventbrite pages.

Do I need to stay at camp with my child?

No. But, you are more than welcome to stay and watch!

What if I need to pick my child up early?

Contact the head instructor for the Camp or Clinic and let them know at the beginning of the day.

What time is camp over each day?

Most of our Summer Camps end at 4:00 pm each day unless noted otherwise on the Eventbrite sign up page.  Our Prospect Camps and Elite Groups may have a different end time.  Make sure to check your Eventbrite ticket and website.

Clinic end times vary.

Is lunch provided?

No, please plan accordingly.

What should I bring?

Bring Goalie gear, workout clothes/ shoes, a water bottle, a lunch, and a great attitude!

What dryland training is done?

Fitness Testing usually takes place on the first day of camp - attendees perform broad jumps, a sit & reach test, 5x10x5 sprint test, max push-ups, and max sit ups in a minute.  Older attendees perform those tests, and a 300-yard shuttle run. Make sure your student is prepared for this test with proper workout gear.  The rest of the week, goalies perform position specific workouts focusing on plyometric movements, core strengthening, and overall athletic development.  There are some games played as well.

What group will my child be in?

The groups are initially built on the ticket that was purchased for the Camp/Clinic. We then separate the groups based on age and sometimes skill level. Our goal is to make sure each goalie is in the group to best help their development on the ice.

What skill level do I need to be at?

Our youngest students can be 5 years old with a minimum requirement being able to hold their balance and skate around the ice. We can accommodate any skill level beyond that.

Will someone be able to help my child get dressed?

Yes. We will have Junior Instructors in every locker room to help with gear issues and make sure everyone is on time!

Where are Camps offered?

Camps are offered at ice rinks around metro Detroit, Grand Rapids, MI, Toledo, OH, Milwaukee, WI, and Traverse City, MI.

What if my child has medical concerns?

Please address any medical concerns or limitations with a lead staff member at the beginning of camp. We have many years of experience in accommodating injuries and medical conditions.

What is an ESU?

We offer current students the opportunity to sign up for the following year's camp in order to reserve their spot. ESU stands for Early Sign Up - you may hear that phrase from a staff member or goaltender.

Since many of our camps sell out every year the ESU offers goalies the chance to put down a deposit and hold their spot for next summer. It also enters goalies into our GRAND PRIZE DRAWING where they can win free goalie pads, a free summer camp, and a bunch of other sweet prizes!

What is a report card?

At the end of each week every goalie is given a report card highlighting different elements of the goaltending position. The report card can be a great tool to show your goalie the strengths and areas to focus on moving forward.

Where/What/When is the opening/closing address?

The opening address will take place after check in and before the first ice session. It is usually in the rink lobby, unless otherwise stated. Closing address takes place each Friday afternoon of camp, usually in the same space as the opening address.

What if I can’t attend a day of camp during the week?

We do not offer pro-rated camps. Please sign up for a camp, paying in full. If there is availability to attend one of our other Summer Camp locations for the allotted number of make-up days, we will allow the credit to be transferred to another camp.

Are there female staff members?

Yes. Almost every camp has female staffers and/or shooters.

What is Martian Hockey?

Martian Hockey is a game played between the staff and students. The goalies don't have their sticks and need to cover the puck to score a point. The staff has to score on 1 of 6 nets spread out around the ice to score a point. The first team to 11 wins!

What is the Martian Cup?

The most prestigious trophy in Summer Camp history is awarded each Friday as the Martian Cup final reaches a fever pitch. The staff OR goaltenders will lift the Martian Cup and bask in its glory after the final game is played on the second hour of morning ice.

What is Asteroids?

A game played during camp where goaltenders line up on the goal line and are instructed to skate end to end with no stick. The staff is in the neutral zone along the boards passing pucks across the ice. If a goalie is hit in the skates by a puck while skating, they are out. Only one goalie can survive and will be crowned winner!

What is the Net Relay Race?

Net relays are a fun end to a few of our on ice skates. Teams of goalies push a net with an instructor steering it until the entire line has gone. Whoever finishes first wins!
